A fire destroyed a barn with 12,500 4-week old broilers on Saturday on a farm in Roaring River North Carolina.
Claude Shew Jr. a contract broiler producer for Wayne Farms said that he was alerted to the fire by his automated alarm system and called 9-1-1. The firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading to the other seven barns.
According to Roaring River Fire Chief Dale Pierce , the fire started at the end of the building where the electrical control panels are housed. The fire may have been started by the electrical system or its natural gas system.
