Fund helps educate the future of the poultry industry

A sustainable future for the poultry industry depends on educating and attracting next generations, and for Aviagen®, these are core values. That’s why the company has contributed to the Canadian Poultry Research Council (CPRC) since 2012. This year, Aviagen will again contribute $25,000 (US dollars, which equals more than $32,000 Canadian dollars) to the CPRC for its research efforts, with $5,000 earmarked for a graduate scholarship. The educational fund will be donated to a current student seeking higher education in poultry genetics at a university in Canada. The field of study chosen will be one that helps to advance the global poultry industry, and Aviagen will play a role in the recipient selection process.

Aviagen is committed to the Canadian poultry industry at large, and further demonstrates this commitment by also supporting the country’s university research activities.

CPRC and the future of the industry

Scott Gillingham, Canadian regional business consultant for Aviagen, stresses the importance of the CPRC to the Canadian market. “Aviagen has demonstrated a firm commitment to the CPRC and the Canadian poultry market. CPRC research and the students they sponsor play a valuable role in sustaining the industry throughout our country. Aviagen realizes the urgency of drawing up-and-coming professionals to the industry, and of promoting the cause of research and development.”

Dr. Bruce Roberts, Executive Director of the CPRC, added, “Aviagen and the CPRC have a longstanding relationship, and Aviagen’s support contributes to our research in areas that are of vital importance to the industry’s future. Some examples are poultry health and welfare, antimicrobial stewardship, food safety and environmental sustainability. Aviagen and the CPRC collaborate on these and other research topics and issues facing our industry, and we value the insight of Aviagen experts on these topics. By continuing to support poultry graduate students, Aviagen demonstrates its dedication to future generations of Canadian poultry professionals.”
