Amick Farms is moving forward with a major expansion of its poultry processing facility in Laurel, Mississippi, backed by a $74.5 million corporate investment announced Monday. The South Carolina–based company acquired the Laurel operation in 2021 and now plans to significantly increase its production capacity.

The expansion is expected to boost weekly processing volumes from 800,000 birds to roughly 1.1 million and generate about 190 new jobs over the next three years. The project reflects continued growth in Mississippi’s agricultural sector, which has long played a central role in the state’s economy.

Support for the project is being provided by the Mississippi Development Authority through the Mississippi Flexible Tax Incentive program, along with assistance for infrastructure improvements. The Economic Development Authority of Jones County is also contributing to the effort.

State officials say the expansion highlights Mississippi’s appeal as a destination for business investment, citing its transportation access, available resources, and economic development strategies. Since 2020, Mississippi has attracted more than $41 billion in economic development commitments, reinforcing its reputation as a competitive environment for industry growth.

The Laurel project further strengthens Jones County’s economic outlook, adding jobs, expanding the local tax base, and reinforcing the region’s role in food production as Amick Farms continues to grow its presence in the state.
