Robert C. “Bob” Johnson, CEO and owner of House of Raeford Farms, has been honored with induction into the North Carolina Poultry Science Hall of Fame, becoming the third generation of his family to receive the prestigious recognition.

A Family Built on Industry Leadership

Bob Johnson now joins an exclusive group of poultry leaders that includes his grandfather, Nash Johnson (1977), and his father, E. Marvin Johnson (1998). This three-generation milestone speaks to the Johnson family’s long-standing influence and innovation within North Carolina’s poultry industry.

The Hall of Fame is administered by the North Carolina Poultry Federation (NCPF), which has served the state’s poultry producers and processors since 1968. Since 1975, the organization has celebrated individuals who have shaped the industry’s direction, strength, and success.

Driving Growth at House of Raeford

Under Bob Johnson’s leadership, House of Raeford Farms has consistently ranked among the top ten chicken producers in the United States. The company is also one of North Carolina’s top revenue-generating businesses, with operations spanning multiple southeastern states.

Bob has played an active role beyond his company, serving on the NCPF Board of Directors, the National Chicken Council, and the International Poultry and Egg Association. His influence extends nationally and internationally, helping guide policy and industry standards.

A Commitment to Community Impact

In addition to his professional leadership, Bob Johnson is deeply committed to community service. In 2009, he founded House of Raeford Farms FLOCK (Faithful Love Offering for Christ’s Kingdom) — a nonprofit that supports youth programs, hunger relief, and mental health and addiction recovery efforts. Through donations, volunteerism, and local partnerships, FLOCK has become a cornerstone of the company’s community outreach.

Honoring Industry Excellence

Also recognized during the Hall of Fame ceremony was J. Walter “Gator” Pelletier III, a veteran of Goldsboro Milling Company and a key figure in the development of Butterball, where he currently serves on the Board of Directors. Pelletier’s long-term leadership and strategic vision have helped shape the future of the turkey sector.

Looking Ahead to the Fifth Generation

Today, Bob’s son, Cowan Johnson, serves as president of both House of Raeford’s Ready-to-Cook and Further Processing Divisions and the North Carolina Poultry Federation. At the induction event, Cowan reflected on the influence of his father and grandfather and emphasized the lasting impact of their work on North Carolina’s poultry community.

The Johnson family’s legacy spans four generations of service to the poultry industry and their communities. With Bob Johnson at the helm and the next generation stepping into leadership, House of Raeford Farms remains poised for continued growth and positive impact across the Southeast.
