Brazilian Chicken Exports Open the Year with Record January Performance

Brazil’s chicken meat shipments — including both fresh and processed products — reached 459,000 tons in January, setting a new record for the month, according to data from the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA). This marks a 3.6% increase over January of the previous year, when exports totaled 443,000 tons.

Export earnings also climbed to a new January high. Revenue from chicken meat sales abroad reached US$874.2 million, up 5.8% from the US$826.4 million recorded in the same month last year.

The United Arab Emirates remained the top buyer of Brazilian chicken, importing 44,300 tons during the month — a 14% rise year over year. South Africa followed with 36,800 tons, reflecting a significant 34% increase. Saudi Arabia and China each imported 33,500 tons, though while Saudi Arabia posted a 5% gain, shipments to China declined by 25%. Other key markets included Japan with 29,200 tons (+4%), the European Union with 27,400 tons (+24%), the Philippines with 25,100 tons (+23%), South Korea with 16,200 tons (+10%), and Singapore with 14,100 tons.

Among Brazil’s exporting states, Paraná led the way with 187,700 tons shipped in January, up 3.9% from a year earlier. Santa Catarina followed with 103,100 tons (+9.3%), while Rio Grande do Sul exported 58,700 tons (+0.75%). São Paulo and Goiás rounded out the top five, with 26,700 tons (+2%) and 25,600 tons (+9.5%) respectively.
