In response to the escalating trade dispute between the U.S. and China, the Chinese government has suspended imports of chicken products and sorghum from specific American producers. This move is part of a broader retaliatory action following the announcement of new U.S. tariffs on Chinese goods by President Donald Trump.
China has halted poultry imports from Mountaire Farms of Delaware, Inc. and Coastal Processing, LLC, citing health concerns after repeated instances of banned drugs being detected in U.S. chicken products. The Chinese General Administration of Customs made this announcement through a statement on its website.
Additionally, the customs authority has suspended C&D (USA) Inc.’s qualification to supply sorghum to China, again citing quarantine-related issues.
The suspension also extends to shipments of poultry meal made from meat and bones, which is commonly used in animal feed. Three U.S. suppliers—American Proteins Inc., Mountaire Farms, and Darling Ingredients Inc.—will be impacted by this ban.
This move comes as China prepares to implement a 34% tariff on all American imports starting April 10, following through on its pledge to retaliate against U.S. tariffs that have heightened tensions between the two countries.
