Mexico has scaled back its restrictions on Brazilian chicken imports, now limiting the ban solely to products originating from the state of Rio Grande do Sul. This marks a shift from the earlier nationwide prohibition, according to Brazil’s Agriculture Ministry.
While Mexico is easing its stance, other countries are tightening theirs. Mauritania has imposed a full ban on all chicken imports from Brazil, and Oman has specifically suspended shipments from Rio Grande do Sul.
These trade moves follow Brazil’s confirmation last month of a bird flu case on a commercial poultry farm in Rio Grande do Sul. The detection has led to a wave of import restrictions from multiple countries concerned about the potential spread of the virus.
