The 2025 Miami County Poultry royalty was recently crowned at Fricker’s Restaurant in Troy.

Store Manager Jennifer Gates sponsored the entire contest including crowns, hats, sashes, prizes and gift cards for all the participants.

Eight poultry exhibitors entered the contest. They created a poultry related poster and attended an interview with the judges. The scores were based on knowledge, poster, interview and personality. This years judges included Cindy Harris, one of the founding members of the poultry royalty contest, Jennifer Gates, Fricker’s manger, and Abby Hissong, 2017 Miami County Fair queen and Ohio State Fair queen runner-up. The judges agreed, all the contestants represented our county well and were full of knowledge and passion for their projects.

This year’s representatives include king: Garrett Petry; queen; Charlotte Norman; prince: Jackson Norman; princess: Kynadie Wirrig. The royalty will help assist with poultry shows, fundraisers, educational events and local parades.

New in 2025 to Miami County, is a Poultry Association. The families that make up the newly formed group are all 4-H and FFA members in the county.

The Miami County Poultry Association mission statement: The Miami County Poultry Association strives to educate and tell the poultry story through education and opportunities for 4-H and FFA poultry exhibitors in Miami County and surrounding counties.

Putting the mission statement into action, the association hosted its first educational clinic. 36 kids attended from four different counties. On Sunday, April 27, a poultry clinic was held at fairgrounds in the poultry barn. Local poultry club president and poultry enthusiast, Amanda Heitzman came and spoke to the exhibitors and their families. She stayed the duration of the clinic and answered questions, making connections with exhibitors. Heitzman shared her role in helping the Preble county poultry barn grow and thrive over the years and offered her hand in supporting our county in any way she could.

To cover the expenses of expanding poultry experiences and educational opportunities in our county, the association is selling sponsorship’s. Each $50 donation puts a banner up the week of the fair with their family or business name on it as well as a presence on social media.
