Flames engulfed a structure housing chickens and an egg processing plant on Tuesday in Ocoee, Florida, according to Orange County Fire Rescue.

Fire crews extinguished the blaze at Lake Meadow Naturals, an urban farm that has supplied meat and eggs to businesses in central Florida for more than 20 years.

In a post on social media, Lake Meadow described “a scary situation” in its egg processing room and adjacent main chicken coop. “An electrical fire broke out and forced our staff to react quickly and tend to our animals safely,” it said.

Photos from the scene showed chickens being released from the burning building.

Staff and animals are accounted for, but the farm is looking at “a complete remediation of the egg processing room, according to Lake Meadow.

The farm operates a store specializing in poultry, grass fed/finished beef, grass-fed goat, Berkshire pork, cage-free chicken eggs and duck eggs.
