JX Restaurant Inc., headquartered in Maryland Heights, Mo., is initiating a recall of approximately 621 pounds of fully-cooked chicken products due to concerns of misbranding and undisclosed allergens, according to the announcement by the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service. The product in question contains sesame oil, a recognized allergen, which has not been properly declared on the product label.
Produced on various dates between October 27 and November 8, 2023, the recalled product is packaged in 16-oz. plastic trays labeled as “SISTER SISTER GENERAL TSO’S CHICKEN with FRIED RICE.” Look for lot codes 11/07/23, 11/11/23, 11/17/23, 11/18/23, or 11/19/23 on the label to identify the affected items.
The recalled products are marked with the establishment number “P-754” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were distributed to retail locations in Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, and Wisconsin. The issue came to light during a verification task conducted by FSIS inspection personnel, revealing that sesame oil was omitted from the product label.
As of now, there are no reported instances of adverse reactions associated with the consumption of these products. Consumers are urged to check their purchases for the specified lot codes and to return or discard the items if affected. The recall underscores the importance of accurate allergen information to ensure the safety of consumers with food sensitivities.
