McDonald’s Partners with Tanmiah to Boost Large Broiler Production in Saudi Arabia

McDonald’s has entered into a strategic agreement with the Saudi Development Authority and Al Tanmiah Food Company to strengthen local poultry production and advance the Kingdom’s poultry sector.

The collaboration focuses on expanding the production of large broilers, a segment in which Tanmiah is currently the only producer in the region. Under the deal, Tanmiah will increase its supply of poultry to McDonald’s locations across Saudi Arabia, which now total around 412 restaurants.

Producing large broilers poses particular challenges in the country’s hot climate and demanding agricultural conditions. Most poultry operations in Saudi Arabia raise smaller birds, averaging about 1.4 kg live weight and 1 kg carcass weight, with a growth period of 28 to 35 days and daily weight gains of 48–54 grams. Smaller birds are often preferred for their lower space requirements, potential for higher stocking densities, and alignment with local consumer preferences.

Tanmiah’s approach to large bird production relies on its expertise in farming, feed, and animal health management. The company’s role in this partnership aligns with Saudi Vision 2030, which seeks to increase national food self-sufficiency.

To meet the anticipated growth in demand from McDonald’s, Tanmiah is preparing expansion plans within the Kingdom, aiming to increase production capacity while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and sustainability.
