Meat & Poultry Ontario Celebrates 45th Anniversary at 2025 Awards Gala

Meat & Poultry Ontario (MPO) proudly celebrated its 45th anniversary during the 2025 Awards Gala, held October 25 at Blue Mountain. The annual Awards Gala brought together MPO members to honour the people and families that make up the association, recognizing their commitment to both the organization and Ontario’s meat and poultry sector.

The evening began with special 45th anniversary remarks delivered by MPO Chair, Gerhard Metzger, from Metzger Meats, followed by a toast from MPO’s Executive Director, Franco Naccarato.
“What an incredible turnout for tonight’s Awards Gala, which continues to grow in popularity each year,” said Metzger. “It is truly a privilege to serve as Chair of MPO and represent our industry. This is an exciting year for MPO, as we celebrate 45 years!”

“Today was filled with energy and connection, bringing together industry professionals for a well-rounded experience,” added Naccarato. “It was a full day that balanced learning, networking, and celebration of the craft.”

The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Lifetime Achievement Award, honouring Steve Young of The Yes Group and Scott McQuay of Viscofan for their outstanding contributions to Ontario’s meat industry.

In celebration of MPO’s 45th anniversary, the association also recognized their previous Lifetime Member Recipients; Jim Vidoczy (2000), Tony Facciolo (2011), Laurie Nicol (2018), Doris Valade (2019), Richard Halenda (2021), and Carlos Domingos (2023) – along with Past Presidents; Mario Henry (2003–2005), Tim Schinkel (2005–2007), Tony Facciolo (2007–2011), Cory Van Groningen (2013–2017), and Carol Goriup (2017–2021). The recognition highlighted their enduring dedication, commitment, leadership, and service to the association and Ontario’s meat industry. MPO also recognized several long-standing members for their dedication to the association, including Klever Equipped Inc., Viscofan, and Foodcon, each celebrating 10 years of membership. Canada Compound Company, CP Industries, Elora Road Meats, and Hela Spice Canada Inc. were also honoured for 25 years of continued membership.

The Meat Industry Achievement (MIA) Award was presented to an MPO business member or individual demonstrating exceptional success and leadership in the meat and poultry sector. This year, Neil Weston of Weston Abattoir Ltd., took home this achievement.

The Associate Member Recognition Award (AMRA), recognizes an associate member company for outstanding contribution to MPO and the broader industry, and is voted on by the membership, was presented to Klever Equipped Inc.
The Joe Abate Community Hero Award, honours individuals or businesses who exemplify generosity and a deep commitment to community betterment, was presented to Richard and Ola Halenda of Halenda’s Fine Foods.
