Nationwide Recall Issued for Oscar Mayer Turkey Bacon Due to Listeria Concerns

817

Kraft Heinz has announced a nationwide recall of its Oscar Mayer Turkey Bacon following internal testing that revealed possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, a bacterium that can cause serious illness. The recall affects more than 367,000 pounds of turkey bacon, as confirmed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service.

While there have been no reports of illness linked to the recalled products, Listeria infections can be severe or even fatal for certain groups, including young children, the elderly, pregnant individuals, and those with compromised immune systems.

Details of the Recall

The affected turkey bacon products were produced between April 24 and June 11, 2025, and sold in vacuum-sealed packages. Consumers are advised to check their refrigerators and freezers for the following products:

  • 12-ounce packages: UPC 071871548601, lot code RS40, with “Use By” dates from July 18 to August 2, 2025.

  • 36-ounce packages (three 12-ounce packs): UPC 071871548748, lot codes RS19, RS40, or RS42, with “Use By” dates from July 23 to September 4, 2025.

  • 48-ounce packages (four 12-ounce packs): UPC 071871548793, lot codes RS19, RS40, or RS42, with “Use By” dates from July 18 to September 4, 2025.

Retailers have been instructed to remove the affected products from store shelves, and consumers who have purchased any of these items should not consume them. Instead, they should dispose of the products or return them to the place of purchase for a refund.

Health Risks of Listeria

Listeria monocytogenes is capable of surviving refrigeration and freezing, making it particularly dangerous in ready-to-eat meat products. Infections caused by this bacterium—known as listeriosis—can lead to symptoms such as fever, muscle aches, gastrointestinal distress, and more serious complications in high-risk individuals.

Pregnant people should be especially cautious. Listeriosis during pregnancy can lead to miscarriage, premature birth, or serious infections in newborns. Because early symptoms can resemble common pregnancy discomforts like morning sickness, prompt medical evaluation is critical if a fever of 100.6°F or higher is present alongside other symptoms.

Sanitation and Consumer Assistance

If you discover a recalled package in your home, it’s important to thoroughly clean any surfaces it may have touched. Use hot water with a mild dishwashing detergent, followed by a disinfecting solution made with one tablespoon of bleach per gallon of water. Rinse well and dry the area with a clean towel or paper towel.

Consumers with questions about the recall can contact Kraft Heinz at 800-280-7185 or by emailing consumerrelations@kraftheinz.com.

Remaining vigilant and taking immediate action can help prevent illness and protect those most at risk.
