The National Chicken Council on Tuesday released a new video outlining how the chicken industry has enhanced safety measures in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. You can watch the video here.
Using drone photography, viewers can see new perspectives from the inside of a processing plant and the essential workers who help keep grocery shelves and restaurants stocked with our nation’s favorite protein: chicken.
The video features Ashley Peterson, Ph.D, the National Chicken Council’s Senior VP of Scientific and Regulatory Affairs. Dr. Peterson walks through the numerous safety protocols followed inside processing plants, including:
- Physical distancing
- Personal protective equipment
- Plexiglass barriers on lines
- Temperature monitoring for everyone entering the plant
- Hand washing and sanitizing stations
- Descriptive signs in multiple languages for clear explanations of procedures
- Dividers in break rooms
- Daily sanitation shifts
- On-site nurses
“Worker safety is not something that’s new to the chicken industry,” shares Dr. Peterson. “It’s something that has been part of our culture for decades.”
