Perdue Farms has announced plans to close its chicken processing plant in Monterey, Tennessee, on March 28, 2025, a move that will affect 433 employees. The closure was confirmed through a social media post by Putnam County Mayor Randy Porter and a press release from the company.
The decision follows a strategic review of the facility’s performance and long-term viability. According to the company, “Changes in market demand and how the company produces and supplies its products have impacted the Monterey facility in recent years.”
To support the employees affected by the closure, Perdue Farms has pledged to provide severance packages, extended Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act protections, additional severance pay, and job placement assistance.
The Monterey plant, which Perdue Farms purchased in 1998, has been a significant local employer for decades. The closure not only impacts the workforce but also marks a significant shift for the community that has relied on the facility for economic stability.
Poultry Producer will continue to provide updates on this developing story, including Perdue Farms’ efforts to assist employees and any broader implications for the poultry industry.
