ProTen, Australia’s leading broiler farming company, has strengthened its national footprint through the acquisition of Somerset Poultry, a high-capacity broiler operation located in Murgheboluc, Victoria.

The transaction, brokered by JLL’s agribusiness division, followed a highly competitive Expressions of Interest campaign that attracted attention from both local and international investors. While the final purchase price has not been publicly disclosed, the campaign was guided by an estimated EBITDA of around $1.1 million and targeted an investment yield near nine percent.

Somerset Poultry operates six state-of-the-art broiler sheds with the capacity to raise approximately 300,000 birds per cycle, all under RSPCA-approved conditions. The facility is backed by a long-term production contract with Turosi Food Solutions Group, providing a stable foundation for future output.

Spanning over 82 hectares, the property features robust infrastructure including secure water supply via Barwon Water mains, river entitlements, an on-site bore, and extensive storage systems. The farm also maintains high biosecurity standards and has room for potential expansion pending regulatory approval.

Its proximity to essential poultry infrastructure, such as Turosi’s hatchery and processing facilities, Ridley’s feedmill in Lara, and Avalon Airport, enhances its strategic importance within the supply chain.

The acquisition bolsters ProTen’s presence in Victoria and aligns with its growth strategy by integrating a well-established, professionally managed site with significant production capabilities and logistical advantages.
